Pick It UP!!!

Sometime it is up to us to pick up everyones trash.

I know I am not the only one doing this, but we shouldn’t have to be. Here of lately it seems on the trail I am seeing more and more litter just laying on the trail. In Scouting it is pounded into us Leave No Trace. I can remember as a young scout myself we were at the end of a big trip ready to go and they would yell police line. What this meant was the whole troop would line up arm length apart and SLOWLY walk the campsite picking up any and I mean any little peace of trash we saw. Today going into my 50’s I understand it more than ever. I also now get keeping you camping foot print as small a possible that way you can control the amount of damage your doing to the environment. After all that is the main goal of leave no trace isn’t it, to save the land for the next hiker or outdoors man to come along. We as outdoors community have to pound it home to the next generation leave no trace and why we leave no trace.

Backpacking List

So with this basic backpacking list you should be good to go. Remember when backpacking keep it as lite as possible. Most backpacker measure everything in ounces and every ounce counts. Also when backpacking remember to pack out trash, so keep your trash to bare minimum. Lets get to the list.

Backpacking List

1. Hiking boots and/or shoes, make sure they are of good quality.

2. Backpack, here again good quality is the best.

3. Tent/ Hammock, now this is up to you on how you want to sleep on the trail and if the trail has places to hang a hammock.

4.Sleeping bag and sleeping pad.

5. Stove and fuel. There are many choices here do your home work on this to see what would be the best for you.

6. Kitchen Supplies, what ever you need to make your meals on the trail. Once again this should be based off what food you will be taking.

7. Plenty of Food. Refer to number 5 and 6 as far as what kind of food your taking and how you will prepare such food. i.e. Freeze Dried, MRE and Regular prepared foods.

8. Water Bottles and Water Treatment Supplies i.e Light Pen, Carbon Filter or Tablets.

9. Weather-Appropriate Clothing.

10. Emergency & Hygiene Supplies

11. Small Repair Kit. i.e. tent repair or hammock repair.

12. 10 Essentials, refer back to the list I posted on February 9th.

This might be the ticket!!!

So I saw a video the other day on YouTube from Fun on Vancouver Island and he was showing the use of these really cool coffee filters. So I found them on Amazon and put them in the shopping cart. Fast forward a few days Chloe and I were at Academy Sports and found this. Kuju coffee (base camp flavor). You get five to a pack for 7.69 yeah a little pricey but the idea behind it being all ready to go is ideal. Just toss one or how ever many you need for your trip in a zip lock and into your food bag and your off on your adventure. The flavor is a combo of Oak, Chocolate and Honey is just right. They do have other blends and you can check them out at http://www.kujucoffee.com. Here is another note on this coffee 1% of all purchases goes to the National Park Foundation.
