Took a little drive over the weekend and hit up a couple of different parks. Yes there are videos coming soon.
The first park I went to was Stones River National Battlefield in Murfreesboro TN.
The second park I went to was Old Stone Fort State Park in Manchester, TN. This one I am looking at going back to camp soon.
I am editing the videos now and should have the first one up this week. I also stumbled up on another place while I was there. Stay tuned for that one also.
The first campout of 2023 is in the book and all the new gear worked as I figured it would. Also went back to Montgomery Bell State Park for the first time since the mid-80s. So come check out the video with an incredible story of a family and their travels.
It is time to put all the new gear to the test. I will be headed to Montgomery Bell State Park near Dickson TN this weekend. Will be rolling out all the latest gear and seeing if it all performs as it should. I am pumped and nervous all at the same time. Plan on rolling in around 2-3pm and taking my time setting it all up. On another note I camped at Montgomery Bell back in the late 80’s so it will be good to set foot in an old campground from back in my Scouting days. Stay tuned for the videos to come. I will be shooting a cooking video this weekend also.
Did a little street photography yesterday in downtown Nashville. As always Broadway was hopping even in early afternoon. So here they are the photos.

In the south for some of us, July and August are well dead months for us because the temp is in the 90s with humidity running near 70% which makes the temp feel into the 100’s and no one wants to sleep in that unless you have snake blood.
So we take this time to make repairs or even change up gear parts here and there (because we are never happy with what we have. So far I have replaced weather stripping on the bed cover, and kicked out the firewood for a propane fire pit.) To make things better, faster set up or easier set up at camp so we can be on the trail longer or cover more miles.
With that all said have I ever camped in the middle of summer, and the answer to that is YES. As a scout, we slept in canvas tents that hold in the heat as much as your kitchen oven. So I have done it for many years and as time went on I introduced a battery-operated fan. So now as an adult, I just choose to bypass these two months. Now you know why I choose not to camp in the dead of summer.
But don’t worry won’t be long before we are camping and Overlanding in new places like LBL, DBNF, and some of our great Tennessee State Park and just maybe some other state’s state parks. So stay tuned and well hope to see you out there.
Well, Saturday began my exploration of DBNF. While we only covered 39 miles in a little over 4 hours in the forest, we saw a lot. So now I am looking at this fall exploring and staying in DBNF. I am looking at putting together a couple of days in the forest exploring and camping along the way. Thanks to Bill for tagging along and navigating the trails. While neither of us got to encounter the wildlife we wanted to (he a rattlesnake, me a bear) we did see a mama and baby deer together on the trail. I am sure at some point we will get to see them in due time. Daniel Boone covers 21 counties of eastern Kentucky and more 708,oo0 acres of national forest and 600 miles of trails.
